Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

Public Speaker

Harness the power of your stressors with Blue Door’s Power Skills program. Using DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), our groups are for people who want to effectively approach their emotional, behavioral, and interpersonal challenges in a fun, friendly, and nonjudgmental environment. DBT is a unique approach to mental health, developed by Marsha Linehan, Ph.D. and is designed to help you change negative thinking patterns, develop positive behaviors, and reduce actions that result in self harm. DBT has been the subject of more than 30 years of scholarly research and practice: there is evidence of its usefulness as a set of tools for enlightenment as well as its appropriateness to address issues of PTSD, Trauma, and Suicidal thinking.

DBT SKILLS GROUPS

Power Skills Groups meet one time per week for 8 weeks, each session lasting for 90 minutes. Based on Linehan’s Skills Training modules, the skills groups are each designed to focus on one of the four areas that constitute the comprehensive DBT program: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotional Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. Groups are kept small and affordable, are designed as education rather than as support groups. Call us to learn more about skills groups, and to learn when the next group begins.

Current Schedule:
Beginner Adult Group - Wednesdays starting March 27th
Beginner Teen Group - Mondays starting April 1st

DBT THERAPY

If you find that you are in a great deal of discomfort, you may benefit from spending time in a 1:1 therapy setting. By participating in DBT therapy you can take advantage of individual coaching to balance your stresses and skills.  This therapy is supported by research to be effective for multi-problematic situations, for persons influenced by past trauma or PTSD, or for those needing to navigate the fear and helplessness that occurs when you or your loved ones are experiencing addiction or mental illness.
